This weekend I made myself a custom chalk bag! I created the pattern based on ideas from many different DIY chalk bag tutorials online. My bag includes a pocket, 2 loops for hanging, and elastic bands for attaching a brush.
The first version of my bag had a big mistake—I forgot to make the inner felt lining taller than the outside of the bag! I made both layers the same size, and finished the entire bag that way. When I put chalk inside, I wasn’t able to cinch the felt lining closed! Making them the same size didn’t leave any extra felt to go across the top. I had to undo one of the seams on the bottom, turn the bag inside out, add additional felt lining, and then use a ladder stitch to hand sew the seam closed again.
