This year, I had a lot of fun making “virtual choir” Christmas carols with my sister and friends scattered across the country. Since we couldn’t be together due to the pandemic, we each recorded our part separately and then put it together after the fact. Such a fun project!

Christmas Matters Holiday Carolers
This fall I became a member of Christmas Matters Holiday Carolers, a professional caroling ensemble in Los Angeles. We are a group of about 40 local singers who learn a huge book of choral christmas arrangements and are hired out in quartets to sing at holiday celebrations and other events. We wear Victorian-esque costumes when we sing, it’s a ton of fun! I loved learning the music and singing together with lots of wonderful people.
Kevin Allswede and I were given the opportunity to record the University of Michigan Orpheus Singers performing works by Tomás Luis de Victoria.
The singers chose to sing in two concentric circles around the microphones. We used a blumelein configuration for the main stereo pair and added two room mics to add space.
The recordings are posted in the University of Michigan SMTD media gallery as well as on my soundcloud. The project is described in more detail here.
