iZotope Vinyl

iZotope’s Vinyl plugin is a classic vinyl emulation effect that was originally released in 2000, and for its 20th anniversary we gave it a complete overhaul. The update includes a brand new modern UI, as well as a new lofi effect, and it is available for free!

I was on the development team for this project, and mostly worked on the UI. The update began initially as a project in iZo Open, our biannual internal hackathon. It was a proof of concept project which created a React layer for our internal UI framework, and it looked so good that it got the go-ahead to be polished up for official release.

We ended up removing the React layer for the official product, because while it was great for a hackathon, it was not fleshed out and tested enough for a full product release. My work was mostly on this aspect of the project—porting over the UI away from React to use our internal UI framework directly.

I had a lot of fun polishing up this project for release. It is so cool to see how many people still love this little plugin from 20 years ago, and to give it a sorely needed makeover.
